Claire Henry, Ph.D.
Claire was previously a Senior Lecturer in Digital Media Production at Massey University and now works at Flinders University in Australia.
Her research has had an overarching focus on the cultural politics and ethics of screen violence (particularly sexual violence), which has expanded to investigate the practical potential of digital media interventions in violence and social harm.
She is currently working on applied media-based projects with policy impact in the context of Aotearoa New Zealand.
Her InternetNZ-funded research project in 2019, ‘Preventing child sexual offending online through effective digital media,’ established an evidence base for creating images and advertisements that are effective in ‘nudging’ individuals potentially at risk of online offending away from online child sexual exploitation material and toward seeking therapeutic intervention.
The principles established in this prior prevention advertising research will inform Dr Henry’s development of the SSWT publicity materials, strategy, and evaluation.
