Research Database and Pilot Service Evaluation
Research is integral to the SSWT approach.
We are committed to being research-informed in our therapy, and this is about striving for the best outcomes for the participants and communities we serve.
The new SSWT service was designed in line with up-to-date knowledge about sexual attraction to children/young people, the treatment needs of those who experience this form of attraction, and effective therapeutic approaches.
With the aim of continuous improvement, we will change and adapt what we do as research develops further.

Organically Evolving Research
As well as being guided by research, we aim to contribute to it. The new SSWT therapeutic service is available from June 2022 as a pilot evaluation study.
This means that with consent, participant engagement and impact will be measured and recorded anonymously in a research database.
At the end of the pilot study (during 2022), the research team will analyse the combined data, to help answer the question of whether the SSWT service is meeting its aims.

Confidentiality is Paramount
In our research as with all our work, issues of participant confidentiality and information privacy are treated with the utmost care.
Participants can be assured the pilot evaluation research will not involve any information that could be personally identifying. More information about privacy and confidentiality can be found here. |
Further information about the research process is provided to potential new participants at intake, when consent to participate is discussed.
We do not collect information about participants without their consent, and we are happy to answer participants’ questions about the research at any stage during their journey with SSWT.

Can I access the SSWT therapy if I don't want to be part of the research?
To date, SSWT was offered only as part of a pilot research study during 2022 and 2023, and is now currently closed to new referrals.
In all areas of healthcare, it is important that new services and therapies are evaluated at an early stage, to avoid costly or harmful broader implementation of ineffective approaches.
The SSWT evaluation aims to determine whether the therapy is beneficial, so that any future broader roll-out will be evidence-based, and so that we can continue to improve our service.

If you do not wish to be a part of the SSWT evaluation research, the team will be happy to connect you with alternative organisations who work therapeutically to address and prevent harmful sexual behaviour.
